Lesson Plans October 29-November 2

Monday: Students will choose an Edgar Allan Poe story or poem to research. They will be looking for theme and symbols of his story. They will also be looking to identify what stories the symbols in our crime scene represent.

Tuesday: Students will create a project based on the story they chose. They will include two symbols from the story, the theme and two quotes.

Wednesday: Students will complete their projects and share them on Flipgrid. (Half Day for Students)

Thursday: Some classes will be finishing up projects. We will read Freak the Mighty and review Vocabulary for Chapters 9-25

Friday: Students will have a test over the vocabulary from Freak the Mighty chapters 9-25. We will read Freak the Mighty.

 

ADVANCED:

Monday: Students will be placed in groups to prepare for a Mock Trial of the villain in “Tell-Tale Heart”. They will begin preparing the case and preparing for the trial.

Tuesday: Students will continue preparing for trial.

Wednesday: We will begin the trial of the Villain

Thursday: Continue trial if needed.

Friday: Discussion/Comparison of our two Holocaust Novels.

 

Lesson Plans October 22-26

Monday: A CRIME HAS BEEN COMMITTED! Students will be investigating the life and death of Edgar Allan Poe.

Tuesday: We will continue with our investigation into Poe.I will introduce Mood and Suspense and we will preview “The Tell-Tale Heart” by Edgar Allan Poe.

Wednesday:Students will read a play version of “Tell-Tale Heart” and discuss the characters and plot. We will continue discussing mood and suspense. We will also read a chapter from our class novel.

Thursday:Students will complete handouts over “The Tell-Tale Heart”. (anything not completed in class will be homework due Friday) We will read a chapter from our class novel.

Friday:Students will read various Poe stories and decide on a specific work to research. Vocabulary Test over Ch. 9-25. Students will begin analyzing a chosen poem or story to prepare for a project. (All instructions will be on a hyperdoc shared in Google Classroom)

Advanced

Monday:  Begin vocabulary for chapters 10-25.(words 1-10) Character Analysis for Freak. Complete Figurative Language Pre-Test.

Tuesday: Vocabulary Test Corrections. Continue new Vocabulary words (words 11-20). Take notes over Fig. Language.

Wednesday: Rotate through Figurative Language Stations

Thursday: Rotate through Figurative Language Stations

Friday: Rotate through Figurative Language Stations

ADVANCED:

Monday: Finish 100 Words quiz. Various Enrichment Activities.

Tuesday: Answer Questions in Groups over the 1st 5 chapters of Once.

Wednesday: Continue Answering Questions.

Thursday: Notes and Lesson over Irony.

Friday: Irony and Figurative Language Games

 

 

Lesson Plans Sept 24-28

Monday: Students will begin thinking about some of the big themes from “Freak the Mighty”. They will also begin Vocabulary study for the novel.

Tuesday: Begin Research on bullying and Knights of the round table to create background knowledge for the novel.

Wednesday: Students will complete research and play a vocabulary game.

Thursday: We will begin reading “Freak the Mighty”

Friday: Students will begin a character analysis of the two main characters from “Freak the Mighty”.

ADVANCED

Monday: Students will begin research on the Holocaust in order to create background knowledge for our upcoming novel study.

Tuesday: Students will continue Webquest research.

Wednesday: Students will begin creating a One Pager to summarize what they have discovered about the Holocaust

Thursday: Continue One Pager on Holocaust

Friday: Present One Pagers.

Lesson Plans September 10-14

Monday: Students will review the RACE strategy for answering questions. Using that strategy, students will practice answering questions completely.**Anyone that failed the plot structure quiz on Friday can retake it today.

Tuesday: We will reflect on the events of September 11, 2001. Students will read about lives, and then they will learn about what happened to them on that fateful day. Some survived, some did not.

Wednesday: Students will learn new vocabulary for “The Mission” from Scholastic Magazine then read the story.

Thursday: Students will continue working on activities from “The Mission”. They will be looking at the plot and setting, making inferences on character traits and also making connections to it and an expository text.

Friday: Students will take notes on character traits.

ADVANCED:

Same as regular classes.
